The Governing Board  (GB)

The Governing Board (GB) will be the decision making body. It will seek advice from the Management Board (MB), the Advisory Boards (AB) and emerging Task Forces (TF). The MB will support the GB in all aspects concerning the preparation and implementation of decisions. TFs will be conceived as “ad-hoc” groups. They will be set up to respond to specific technical, scientific or administrative demands of the GB and/or the MB. The Secretariat will organise the day to day management and will implement the tasks assigned to it by the GB and the MB, reporting to both of them.
The GB is the ultimate body responsible for the JPI, which deals with JPI policy and strategic issues. Its strategic decisions are based on advice provided by the MB and AB. The GB is composed by a Chair, three Co-Chairs and members (Water JPI participating countries and the European Commission). All Water JPI participating countries are to be represented in the GB through national delegations (National delegates). At least one of the national delegates must be affiliated to a programme owner institution. Additional country representatives can attend GB meetings to advise the National Delegate.

The WATER JPI is a relevant structure for Horizon 2020

Both the Water JPI and Horizon 2020 use public funds to achieve their goals, and enjoy a significant area of synergy in their respective research priorities. The JPI provides a channel for dialogue with the EC on future Horizon 2020 calls. Since its launch, the EC has been very supportive of the Water JPI and a non-voting member of its Governing Board.
